Some Things to Consider

MIND-BODY CONNECTION

Some physical issues affect our thinking.  Often our thinking affects physical health.  Put simply there is a mind-body connection.  Sometimes fatigue, apathy, foggy thinking and a number of other symptoms may be interpreted as depression when in fact you may be experiencing low thyroid functioning, a sleep disorder, a nutritional deficiency of some sort or any number of other medical issues.  As a result, I recommend consulting you doctor first to rule out medical issues.  Low thyroid is a widespread, often undiagnosed condition across the United States. If you prefer, at very least, consult with a Nutritionist or a staff person in a good quality Health Food Store. Several good ones exist in West Michigan and most staff members are well trained and can make good recommendations.

MOTIVATION

Your motivation may be high or it may be low, it doesn't matter.  As you begin to head in the direction you wish, you will be on the journey of making the change.  You may start and stop several times but if you begin again, you will achieve the change you desire.  You will get there!

Three doctors, James O. Prochaska, John C. Norcross and Carlo C. Diclemente, studied how people make changes in their lives.  They studied motivation in particular and published the results in the book Changing for Good.  What they learned is that we progress through six specific stages when we make changes in our lives.  They also learned that most of us move forward and backward through these steps several times prior to actually achieving the change we desire, no matter the goal.  So if you feel you've tried and failed, probably you've not failed but taken a step back, which is not a failure but a step back.  Try again.
